3 Killer Content Ideas for Social Media

*Disclaimer: The term ‘business’ is used multiple times throughout the article and we wanted to clarify that these tips can apply to anyone, not just business! This post was simply targeted toward small business owners/organizations who are running social media accounts for the purpose of promoting/selling a service and/or product.

We’ve all experienced that feeling where you just wonder…what can I post? Social media is now such an integral part of a brand’s marketing plan that it has to check off a thousand boxes before it gets approved. But, don’t fret, below we have outlined in detail 3 foolproof content ideas for when content creation slows down.

#1: A Weekly Roundup

Post a weekly round-up that highlights your/your business' recent achievements, an industry leader whom you admire (this is a great way to connect with them!), industry news, etc. This is a great way to republish old content and perhaps reach a different audience. You can also add a "looking ahead" slide to let your followers in on some things going on in the upcoming days/weeks and get them excited! This is personally one of my favourite go-to’s because you can bring it back every week (or however often you want!) and switch up the content within it a little. If nothing is happening at your business/organization, you can share an important lesson you learned, some people who you admire, a statistic (related to your industry of course!) that you found interesting, etc. It could honestly be ‘A Roundup of My (personal) Favourite Cat Breeds)’ if you’re in the animal industry. Or ‘Our Team’s Favourite New Music Releases)’ if you’re in the music industry.

My point is, is that it can be anything. Keep it related to your industry, but otherwise, let your imagination run wild! This content idea is a great way for people to see the human side of your business as well and really connect with you (the business owner) as someone who they admire and take inspiration from.

#2: Share some behind-the-scenes content!

People love to see the process that goes into creation so take advantage of that! You can post a day-in-the-life, some behind-the-scenes videos and pictures, or even a Q&A for your followers to find out more about what you do! As I mentioned above, this approach is very effective in showing your business and brand as more than just your product/service. This idea can be executed on all aspects of Instagram. IG stories, reels, posts, live, and even using the notes feature (I know! Exciting right?). In fact, using the notes feature may be the quickest and easiest way. Simply treat it as a tweet. Mention something along the lines of being excited to be on set and working hard to launch a new *insert product/service* that your followers should look out for.

Look out for an upcoming blog post that details EXACTLY how to use IG Notes to your advantage. Feel free to follow us on Instagram @thedigitaldissect for more tips and tricks in the meantime!

#3: Share a recent piece of content (but refurbished!!)

Don't be afraid to recycle content! One blog post can offer wayyyyy more than one piece of information. You can create quotes from a piece of content, short takeaways, bullet points that summarize a small piece of what you were talking about or post a particularly interesting clip (if it was in audio/video form). The possibilities are ENDLESS! A 20-minute conversation you had with an industry leader doesn’t have to just be a youtube video, it can be a podcast episode, be formed into quotes that you share across photo-sharing platforms, *multiple* snippets which you share to Instagram Reels (also TikTok, and now Youtube Shorts as well), and you can create bullet points to summarize to you followers who may not want to listen to the whole video. All of these channels essentially bring them back to one place and because there are so many pieces of content from this one piece of content, different people will be able to share it and its potential to reach different audiences will be exponentially higher.
